Who We Are
Codkeenna Initiative is a Somali-led, Non-governmental feminist organization established in 2019 to strengthen women’s voice, participation, and influence in community and decision-making spaces across Galmudug and Somalia.
We believe women already hold knowledge, leadership, and lived experience essential to building inclusive and resilient communities. Yet, systemic barriers continue to limit their visibility and influence. Codkeenna works to address this gap by creating spaces where women and young women can speak openly, connect, and collectively shape priorities that influence real decisions.
Our approach is grounded in community dialogue, feminist engagement, and locally driven solutions that move beyond participation toward meaningful influence and impact.
Codkeenna’s Story
Codkeenna Initiative was founded by Faduma Salad, a feminist and legal professional from Galmudug. Growing up, she witnessed the central role women played in sustaining families and communities, while remaining excluded from many decision-making spaces.
Her academic journey in law and gender studies, combined with lived experience, deepened her commitment to advancing women’s rights and participation. Codkeenna was created from a simple but powerful belief: women’s voices should not stop at being heard; they should shape decisions, influence leadership, and define the future of their communities.
